Rhododendrons, Yaks, & the Mountains....

We had a great time participating in the "Connecting Continents Project" this Spring. H.I.S. students were on their school holiday (end of the Academic year for Nepal), but the 8th Graders gathered twice every week for three weeks at their school to check on the blog and post their questions. They were very amused by the idea of connecting with children their age from different countries through the internet :)

In March of 2009, the CCP (Connecting Continents Project) Ambassadors: Kristy Aburida (USA, but living in United Arab Emirates), Darci Scherbak (Tennessee, USA) and Gilberto Theon (Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) traveled to Nepal to participate in the Connecting Continents Project's trek to Everest Base Camp. The trek was led by Doug Sandok (Colorado, USA).

The CCP Ambassadors spent their few days in Kathmandu with H.I.S. students and posted their first blog entry from in-country introducing Nepal and the Nepali students. As they trekked in the Solu Khumbu region, we continued receiving news on their trek, mind blowing photos and exciting dispatches.

The 8th Graders from H.I.S. had many questions and the blog became their gateway to start understanding and exploring their own country and the different cultures and identities within. It was a really cool experience!

Thank you so much (Doug, Kristy, Darci and Gilberto) for making our learning that much more exciting by sharing your experiences in the mountains with photos and dispatches. We also thank you for visiting H.I.S. and spending time with the kids.

This year's project was in coordination with Mountain Professionals. Ek Dui Teen will be continuing it's distant cross-cultural learning program in 2010 with more schools participating from various countries. We learned a lot from this year's project and we are working with the feedback and exploring new ideas to make participating and learning more educational, exciting and rewarding in the future.
